To account for illnesses, school-sanctioned activities, "a bad day", etc., you will be allowed to miss one biweekly quiz or drop your lowest grade in one of these. When you miss something for reasons beyond your control, please give me a written, signed, dated explanation of what you missed and why you missed it. This will be kept by me and considered at the end of the semester. "Makeup" tests will not be given. Don't put off doing Blackboard quizzes until the last minute, or you will be repeatedly frustrated by technical problems, like the server being "down", your computer malfunctioning, etc. Cheating, a responsibility of both teachers and students to report, will not be tolerated and will result in a zero on the test or assignment (along with notification to the Academic Vice President for your permanent record) for the first offense. You will be dropped from the course with an "F" for subsequent incidents.
The required text provides an excellent overview of the subject matter and is a very good reference book for biology majors and others planning careers in the life sciences. Comprehending the material in the reading assignments is a major goal of this course, so you definitely should buy the textbook. Cell Biology is a major discipline within the biological sciences that many institutions require as part of the "core curriculum". Therefore, this senior-level course will cover a large amount of material.
