Justififcation: This course is designed as a degree requirement for Fisheries and Wildlife Majors. Senior standing is required to take this course.
Course Objectives: FW 4001 is designed to develop the practical skills and knowledge in order to perform scientific presentations in Fisheries and/or Wildlife Science. Aspects of professionalism, presentation organization, and scientific rigor will be covered.
General Education Objectives: This course is not a listed general education requirement.
Class Policies: (1) Class will be held in McEver 206. This room houses the bird and mammal collection which may be treated with numerous hazardous chemicals, therefore; No food, drink, or tobacco products will be allowed in class. (2) Attendance is part of the final grade (see below). (3) Plagiarism on your presentation will result in a score of zero for the assignment. (Plagiarism=presenting work done by someone else, either in whole or in part, as if it were ones own. Special note: In this class you may use visual aids that are copyrighted, provided that you acknowledge the owner. (4) It is expected that students will participate in an academic atmosphere (i.e. participate in class, be honest etc.). Lastly, it is expected that students enjoy themselves and learn!
Assessment Methods: Grades will be computed based on 300 points from the preparation and presentation of two scientific presentations and by your attendance and participation in class. The initial presentation will be a summary of a scientific paper assigned to you. The major presentation will be on a subject of your choosing (with my approval). The grade for that presentation will be a combined from the preparation and handout of an abstract and outline of your presentation (1 week in advance) (50 pts.), an evaluation by your peers (50 pts.) and an evaluation by myself (50 pts.). Presentations should be professional; Well-prepared with slides or other visual aids. Grades will be determined as a straight percentage; i.e., 270-300 = A, 240-269 = B, 210-239 = C, 180-209 = D.

Total points 300**Extra credit will be available to those students who attend or participate in a scientific meeting.
