The destruction or degradation of wetlands can have quite serious consequences such as, decline in water quality, increase in flooding, and the extinction of some valuable wildlife. We can help control the loss of wetlands by maintaining the ones we have and helping to restore some that where lost. | |
The United States is constantly losing its wetlands. Unless some effort is put forth to help conserve them, all will be lost. Here is a map that shows just how much wetland area we have lost. |
Wetlands are also home to some very beautiful plants and animals, some are even endangered. Nearly 1/3 of the nation's threatened and endangered species live only in wetlands while half live in areas near wetlands. |
