Pre-Pharmacy Advising Page

Arkansas Tech University offers a pre-pharmacy curriculum.  Pre-pharmacy is not a major; it is a set of classes that satisfy the requirements for admittance to a Pharm. D program.  The pre-pharmacy requirements can be completed in two years.  Many of our students choose to complete their bachelor's degree however, before entering pharmacy school.  Because of the competitive nature of the pharmacy school acceptance process it is highly recommended that students in the Pre-Pharmacy program also work towards a bachelors degree in biology or chemistry.

Most students plan on attending University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Pharmacy.  However, students can apply to other out-of-state pharmacy schools if desired.  A word of caution though, some universities do not accept out-of-state applicants.  It is strongly encouraged to contact the university to inquire about their requirements and policies.

You will find that admittance to pharmacy school is quite competitive.  To have a reasonable chance of being admitted into a college of pharmacy, a student will typically need at least a 3.65 GPA and will also need approximately a 75th percentile composite score on the PCAT exam.  In an average year, pharmacy schools report that they have approximately 3-4 applicants for each person accepted.

The UAMS 2005 entering class statistics are available by going to http://www.uams.edu/cop/entry_apps/2005_profile.pdf.
