Faculty Position

The Position

Visiting Assistant Professor:  Arkansas Tech University, a state-supported institution of ~7,500 students dedicated to excellence in teaching, seeks applications to fulfill a recent vacancy and are looking for a Visiting Assistant Professor to begin August 2008.  The department will be advertising for a tenure-track position for 2009.  Candidates must hold a PhD in physics or closely related field.  Teaching duties include 12 credit hours/semester including undergraduate physics courses, general education physical science courses and laboratories.

The Area

Arkansas Tech University is located in Russellville,  small town of ~25,000 people that is nestled in the Arkansas River Valley.  Next to town is Lake Dardanelle which is an impoundment of the Arkansas river and overlooked by Mt. Nebo State Park. To the north of Russellville are the Ozark mountains and to the south, the Ouachitas that offer numerous outdoor activities. Russellville is centrally located, about an hour from Little Rock, Hot Springs, and Fort Smith.

 

The Program

The physics program is part of the Department of Physical Sciences with six chemists, four physicists, three geologists, and one science education specialist offering B.S. degrees in Engineering Physics, Physics, Nuclear physics and Physical Science.
